Horse racing will not have a Triple Crown winner this year. Sovereignty, who won the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, is skipping the Preakness Stakes on May 17 at Pimlico Race Course and will instead prepare for the Belmont Stakes in early June.

There will be no Triple Crown winner in horse racing this year. Sovereignty, the three-year-old thoroughbred who won the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, will not race in the Preakness Stakes – the second leg of the three races that make up the Triple Crown.

While Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Sovereignty’s status for the 150th Preakness Stakes (G1) May 17 at Pimlico Race Course was still undecided Monday morning, his team continued to marvel how well Godolphin’s standout 3-year-old colt has rebounded out of his stretch-long battle with runner-up Journalism last Saturday at Churchill Downs.
